The Bruce Gordon Beverly Youth Soccer Association Scholarship Fund
About the Fund
One of the core tenets of Beverly Youth Soccer Association is that 'every kid plays' - meaning that no child will be unable to participate in BYSA program offerings due to a lack of ability to pay. Historically, these scholarships were supported by BYSA's general fund. With the creation of the Bruce Gordon Scholarship Fund, BYSA now has a dedicated and durable financial resource to help Beverly families in need to participate in youth soccer.
The Bruce Gordon Scholarship Fund consists of initial donations made to the memory of Bruce Gordon, as well as any forfeited player registration fees.
Applying for Financial Aid
Financial aid supported by the Bruce Gordon Scholarship Fund is need-based and available for all BYSA programs from Pre-K through Grade 11. BYSA's means test for aid is whether kids receive subsidized school lunch through whatever school they attend. If you need help paying for your child's soccer registration, please reach out directly to our Registrar via email at registrar@bevsoccer.org.
Background
The Bruce Gordon Scholarship Fund was created to honor the memory of former Beverly resident and BYSA player Bruce Gordon. Beverly Youth Soccer instilled in Bruce Gordon his love of soccer. As a result, he played, competed in, and coached soccer in various leagues throughout his life.
Growing up in Beverly, naturally he began his soccer career with the Beverly Youth Soccer Association. He first played for the Zodiacs and continued to play throughout his youth.
He went on to make the Beverly High School varsity soccer team as a high school freshman, serving as co-captain his senior year. After lettering in soccer, he continued to play intramural soccer in college. His love for soccer continued through adulthood, with his participation in indoor and outdoor leagues throughout his life.
Bruce enjoyed sharing his love of soccer with others. He always recruited others into his many adult leagues and coached the soccer team at Bishop Fenwick High School. He would be thrilled to know he is continuing to help others enjoy soccer and learn teamwork as much as he did through the Bruce Gordon Scholarship Fund.
